Thanks to all for a great first week. Everyone pick up the trash. Coaches as your team finishes up on the field please do your part and make sure the area is 100% clear of junk after every practice or game.

There are a few teams that are in need of players. Please check the Web site home page for age groups that are in need. Coaches if you feel your roster is too large, we may be able to move a player to another team. This needs to be mutual with the player, parent and coach on the current team. Please email me and let me know so we can round out a few teams in need. We will do what we can.

Under 6 coaches: Keep in mind all dead balls start from one coach on the field who rolls out a new ball near the middle of the field. Only one adult should put balls into play the entire game. Coaches after each goal spend a few seconds coaching before the next kick off. No player is allowed to stay by their own goal and camp. All 3 players need to be moving with the ball up and down the field. We want Lots and Lots of Goals!

Under 8 coaches please get your defenders off the 18 Yard box. You have a Sweeper/keeper that needs to push up to the top of the box when the ball is on the other side of the field. Move your defender to midfield when ball is deep in the other side of the field. Players must learn to move up and drop with the play. When your sweeper keeper has the ball they need to quickly move to the top of the 18 and distribute.

Under 10 coaches please focus on the width this week. You must get your outside mids to get wide and keep the field spread out. Your team needs to defend with 1 or 2 central defenders and get your mids to move up and down the field. If they do not learn this with you, they will be lost on the larger U12 fields in the future. Try to push you Defender up to midfield to assist you in the attack.

Under 12 coaches: Practice using the full width of whatever field surface you are using in practice. Try to spread the other team as wide as the field allows. This will open up space for you in the middle of the field. Also this is the age where attacking players need to be thinking of working in combinations to unbalance the other team’s defense. Help them in making runs off the ball this week looking for passing lanes.
