During the Powell-Joiner game that was played on Monday, May 5th, the Powell team played 9 players on the field on several occasions during the second half. At half time, the score was zero-zero. During the time they had the extra player on the field, three goals were scored. Several attempts were made each time to get the adult referee to do something and there was no response. This was very discouraging to the players on Team Joiner and also made it very difficult for us to get a chance to score. It would seem that the ref should be responsible for checking to make sure there are the appropriate number of players on the field at all times. I can understand it maybe happening once due to confusion while subbing players but three times during a single game (and those were just the times that we counted).

I am so sorry this happened. Each week we have a topic for the officials to work on. I will make this the top priority. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

That's the way it has been a season with the other games also.

I HAVE BEEN TO A LOT OF GAMES AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT HAPPEN, NOT SAYING IT DID NOT BUT IF IT HAS IT HAS NOT HAPPENED MUCH. MR. POWELL IS OFFERING TO PLAY THE SECOND HALF OF THE GAME IN QUESTION. HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS.

Good morning,

Please keep in mind this is recreational soccer and the games are for fun. At any level in soccer including college to many or few players happen. We were sorry, and we will work on training both the refs and coaches on better substution policy. We will let the officials and Coaches know this weekend. 1st time warning, second time with to many players yellow card and the third a second yellow and the coach is ejected. At every level including games I have done, players get mixed up. Heck I coached an entire half with 10 players. We were getting ready to go in the second half and I said "if you started the game head out to your positions." the second half I counted, and only had ten. we had subbed the entire first half and played a man short. I say this for in the heat of the game players and coaches make mistakes.

This is not cheating, its relying on a 11 year old to leave the field when told and the next to get on. Its not the coaches or teams issue. Its an official responsibility to keep up with. Thanks for bringing this to the clubs attention. we will continue to address issues as they come up.

Dear Team Mom, after much discussion, we believe that the final score will stand with no replay of the second half of the Joiner / Powell game. I am afraid that if we try to fix everything that comes up and we do it now we will feel pressure to do it every time and it is just not possible. I will open the door for a compliant that the ref made a mistake. We do not want to undermine the refs as well. As it was said, it is a training issue and we will certainly do that. I am truly sorry that this happened. I hope you understand and will support this. Without people like you we would not be the great club that we are.

mr. shellhouse you were the one that said the coach was willing to play the second half not us. then when we accept, after talking with our parents and telling them what a great way you and the other coach was handling the situation. now you make it sound like we came up with this solution. looks bad. maybe in the tourney they will play 8v8 and we will play then. and it did happen more than you believe. thank you heather lunsford

Heather, I am sorry for the confusion, and I did not mean to make it sound bad for you or your team. The offer did come from the other coach. I talked it over with some of the board members and the DOC that is where the change came from. Both coaches are great coaches and do a wonderful job. We just did not want to set a prescient on replaying games because of ref issues. I hope everyone understands and will accept this. Again we will work to make sure this does not happen again. Robert

Robert, I understand rules and regulations. I've been dealing with issues of this sort with football and baseball for the past 6-8 years. However, when you place an offer on the table and it is accepted, with consent of the parents, coaches, and players it begins to look suspicious when the offer gets withdrawn almost immediately. Needless to say, our team feels discouraged because we feel like we did not have a fair advantage to play a team that either didn't follow the rules or refused to follow the rules. Our team was excited to hear that we could replay the second half, then in the same breath let down when we were told that we couldn't replay. It's also very disheartening to have our team tripped up and run over on the field and not have any calls made. But, the slightest accidental slip by one of our players the game comes to a halt and free kicks are given. If the parents can see the mistakes being made on the field surely the refs would be able to catch them also. In closing, it's people like you that make the league who we are. Heather
