Now that the first week is behind us, I was wondering what U-6 parents/coaches think of the new rules. I personally think that it has its stregnths and its weeknesses. I enjoy the new team size, it gives more kids the opportunity to be apart of a team and to learn the sport at an early age. I also like the fact that the coaches are doing the Refing. This gives coaches that haven't coached before the chance to learn more about the game. There is somethings that i am not sure about. I am not sure how throwing the ball back into play for the kids is a good idea. I can see how it keeps them moving and makes them think, but i think by not having kick-ins/throw-ins there is a big part of the game that is left out for the younger kids. What happens when they get to U-8 where they have throw-ins/kick-ins? I personally think that it creates more work for the U-8 coaches when the kids move up to the next age group. I know that my kids during the game were stopping and waitng on someone to either throw/kick the ball back into play. They were confused for about this for nearly the whole game.

When the ball left the field of play during the game one of the coaches had an extra ball, this ball was tossed onto the field by one of the coaches (During the game the D.O.C. came by our fields and didn't mention that this was wrong). I'm not sure if maybe it was something somebody wanted to try, but if it was, i don't recommend it to be done. If the rules state that there are to be kick-ins when the ball leaves the field of play, then i will be sure the games that are played by my team will have kick-ins.

HEY U-6 FANS, WE ARE LOOKING INTO SOLVING PROBLEMS NOT MAKING THEM THAT IS WHY WE MADE A CHANGE. YOU ARE CORRECT THAT SOCCER IS A PROGRESSION OF SKILLS AND DIFFERENT SKILL LEVELS FROM AGE GROUP TO AGE GROUP. OUR GOAL IS TO INCREASE PLAYING TIMES FOR THE LITTLE ONES AND GIVE THE COACHES AND PARENTS OWNERSHIP IN THE TEAM AND GAMES. WE TIMED SEVERAL GAMES AT THE END OF LAST SEASON AND DURING SOME GAMES THE PLAYERS ONLY PLAYED 12 -17 MIN. THE REST OF THE TIME WAS SPENT CHASING BALLS AND RESTARTING. JUST SEEMED LIKE A LOT OF TIME WENT TO PRACTICE DURING THE WEEKS TO ACTUALLY WATCH YOUR CHILD DIVIDE 12-17 MIN OF PLAY TIME. THIS NEW SYSTEM MAY NOT SEEM PERFECT TO EVERYONE. BUT, I SAW A LOT OF LITTLE RED FACED KIDS PLAYING HARD AND TOUCHING THE BALL. ALSO, THIS METHOD IS THE RECOMMENDED WAY TO PLAY BY THE YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION. IF EVERYONE WILL GIVE CHANGE A CHANCE TO DEVELOP INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE AND THE COACHES GET USE TO KEEPING THEM MOVING AND PLAYING, I THINK IT WILL WORK FINE. HANG IN THERE AND REMEMBER THE KIDS JUST WANT TO PLAY AND HAVE FUN. WE WILL POST MORE IMFORMATION ABOUT THIS. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR RIVER CITY SOCCER AND ALL THESE LITTLE BOYS AND GIRLS.

Final quick note. The coaches are to roll in restarts. We will work on having only one coach on the field during the game to help the kids focus on where the next ball is coming from. thanks for the questions.

I was very pleased with the new format. My son was able to be involved more playing with players his own age instead of competing with older players. Thought it went very smooth. Great job RCSC DOC and Board members.
