My son has played for River City since 2004. In this time I have never known for a recreational sport to be so political, that it cares more about changing schedules and playing tournaments,in the middle of a season, than the benefit of the children. The Board should have known that every fall there is a deer season. They should have known that with the club site being near a hunting club, parents wouldn't be happy.
As far as the changing of the schedules, has any one on the Board thought about asking the children, who play this game every weekend, what they thought? Has anyone asked the coaches of the different divisions, what their thoughts were to benefit the children on their teams? It seems the only thoughts and opinions that matter are the Board's! It is my opinion that no matter what the Board, parents or coaches think or say...it is ultimatley the CHILDREN that are the real losers of this politically battled league.

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH SOCCER MOM. I'VE BEEN COACHING FOR SIX SEASONS AND THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN TO KEEP TELLING PARENTS THAT THIS HAS CHANGED OR THAT HAS CHANGED. IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY SEASON I HAVE COACHED. THE KIDS DESERVE BETTER AND THE PARENTS THAT SACRIFICE THERE PERSONEL TIME DESERVE BETTER. RCSC HAS ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR ITS UNORGANIZED MANNER AND THIS IS NOT GOING TO HELP THAT REPUTATION. MAYBE THIS CLUB NEEDS TO SPEND A LITTLE MORE TIME FOCUSSING ON THE KIDS AND A LITTLE LESS TIME ON THE POLITICAL BULL. IF YOU WANT RCSC TO BE A SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE, MAYBE SPEND A LITTLE MORE TIME WITH THOSE THAT MATTER. THE KIDS, PARENTS AND COACHES.

P.S. WE WILL HAVE TO FORFIT OUR SECOND GAME SAT. BECAUSE OF THE SHORT NOTICE. THANKS.....AGAIN

I tried to complain about the schedule changes when they changed the schedule for opening day. Please read the response I received on 10/10 under "schedule change". It feels as if the rec kids are getting the shaft. Why did the club accept land by a hunting preserve? Why did the club accept the land by a hunting preserve? It is really nerve racking to hear gun shots at the fields as we did the first game.

Hey, I've probably had more disagreements with THE BOARD than most people, but I think the complex property was donated by the city ..... I could be wrong about that. But if I'm right, some one is complaining about FREE land. I understand that the hunting club located behind it is a problem, but we can't change that unless someone is willing to purchase that property. And that's highly unlikely. The location IS NOT THE BOARD'S FAULT ..... but the children's safety is one of their responsibilities. In the past I volunteered many hours to help support and improve RCSC, in addition to coaching. RCSC is in need of MANY volunteers to help. We can't even get the fields cleared after the rec. games, but we want to complain about WHAT SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T DO. There is nothing wrong with voicing concern, but be reasonable.

Its not about free land almost all recreational facilities have been donated free land. This organization has known about the problem with hunting since before the season started. we will always have issues with fields not being cleaned up that is not the point. The lack of organizing and listening(board) to the people who do donate their time is more of a problem. We need to get back to where it is about the kids and not about how much money can we raise and how much recognition can we get as a soccer league(and personal gain).

My complaint is not about the free land....it is point that the soccer Board is all about 'who has done what for me lately'!!! NEVER THE REC KIDS!!! I understand the Board wanting to improve the league for the children to play but Board has alway put the emphasis on the traveling teams not on the rec teams where more kids play.
As far as setting up and clearing the field, we have helped with that as well. We have volunteered our time to caoch, be at every practice and every game. As Soccerdad2 stated, schedules are always changing, there is nothing worse that having to ask the parents to rearrange their plan for group of people not being able to make a clear decision.
It is hard for some parents to understand why the league is trying SO hard to receive recognition with the State, when they can not even get it in the our city.

Have you anything better to do than to complain? Have any of you ever been deer hunting? You make deer hunting sound like it is a full out military war with bullets flying everywhere and anywhere. You sit, aim, shoot. With all the noise from the complex I seriously doubt that any hunting will take place. Slight tip:Kids and deer look completely different! I am sure that the hunters that do hunt on that land are not idiots and are hunting away from the complex. We are probably more of a nuisance to them than they are to us. Ever thought about that? For the land, it's a drive out there but it sure beats playing in the outfields of a baseball field any day and I am so proud that we have a place to call "home",regardless if it was free or not! As for the change in the schedule, if you're not playing in the tournament, don't be sour about the change, try to be excited for the kids that get the chance to experience it or be glad to have a break. My kids aren't playing in the tournament and yes our schedule is adjusting accordingly but it is done without fuss because of my KID'S love for soccer. If I displayed a bad attitude then they would model that behavior. I am glad that OUR soccer league has the oppurtunity to show case this event in OUR home town and at OUR own complex. If the board is such a problem to you than you should have attended the board meeting at the beginning of the season and voiced your issues then and took part in the board memeber voting. This is my family's 3rd season coaching and playing and I have to say that taking the kids into consideration is always done. As far as the comments about thinking about the coaches who volunteer, To volunteer means to do something without reward or a pat on the back!!Yes we ALL have lives outside of soccer but come on, this is not that bad. I would suggest maybe a few more thank you's to the board members who are volunteers that hardly ever get a Thank You but instead are always critized for how they run our club. Maybe you should consider being a board member if you would rather make those choices.

I am sorry, I could not post my thoughts about the previous post. Unbelievable. This is a privilege not a right. Maybe the forum should be removed from the web-page.

This is my second season with River City and I have never seen an club more unorganized than this one. Schedules change at a moments notice, then change back, new schedules are not given out to all coaches, games are pushed back due to poor planning, teams are told their kids may not be able to play if we don't have enough people to work the concession stand and when we do stay to work we are told they are over manned. I am a single mom with 3 kids playing on different teams. I took on this responsibility because my kids love to play. I fully understood that I may not have games at the same time and that practices wouldn't always be at the same time or even in that same location. I assist all their coaches when they need it, volunteer to work the concession stand for all teams, etc and do it all without complaint or expecting a pat on the back. The joy on my kids faces is all the pat on the back I need. I did not complain when opening day was changed or when the ribbon cutting pushed the games back an hour, but come on. The constant change of schedules is too much. We are told one thing by the coaches and then they have to come back and tell us that there are even more changes. I know my coaches were at that first meeting and no where was it discussed that there would be this many schedule changes. I have family who drive 90 min each way to come out and watch my children play. They are there to support the kids - win or lose. But with the constant schedule changes it makes it almost impossible for those family members to come out.

As for the deer hunting - the club must have known when hunting season was, it's not like this was a surprise - they didn't just up and change the start of hunting season. But, coaches have talked to the hunting club about opening day and the hunting club promised to take precautions. This was passed on to the board members, but they chose once again to change the schedule. I understand the concern, but where was this concern by the board members in the beginning of the season? As for the comment by lvsk, and I quote "Slight tip:Kids and deer look completely different!" While that is ture - accidents happen. Just ask my brother who was shot by accident, he wasn't the intended target - and plenty of precautions had been taken.

blaa...baahhh...baaa.. baaaa.. heard it all before and frankly I am sick of it. We love you and your kids being a part of OUR club and you only offer the down side what about the up side of this club? Not very many people can say they do all you do and for that I am sure it is noticed. If no one has I am sorry and they should have. I will say thank you, you may have worked in my place. I notice all those who are there and do the work, it is easy to pick them out, they are always there. My only comment is that My mama told me to be nice or be nothing. So Pick one.

now now, brew14u that was a little harsh. Please take your Mama's advice. As a past board member for over 6 years I understand where a lot of this is coming from and so does the current board. We all realize some things should have and could have been handled differently. You have to agree? But the constant beating up on us is not helping any, in fact is hurting us all. I stood in front of everyone that even bothered to come to the general membership meeting and I asked if anyone wanted to be apart of the board or wanted to help, everyone held their breath and it was deathly quite and no one offered to help, nor did they say a word. Now that we made a few mistakes according to some they are quick to point their fingers, it is not fair. Every change was done with the kids in mind except for the ribbon cutting and we made it all about them, you or no one else said their kids had fun on the bouncy things. You and many others embarrassed me by simply by not showing up because the time was pushed back. The only reason the games were pushed back was so the kids would have time to play prior to the games. I get picked on still for the small crowd. That is ok, but if you don't support us then you should not have the right to bash us because you don't take the time to find out the how and the WHY. As far as the U12 teams they were trying to move around were for the benefit of them as much as it was for the other teams. They should be getting quality games from teams of their skill and the other teams should not be victims of 2 power teams. I will try my darnest to make sure that it is fair and balanced in the future and anyone who can not see that has their head in the sand as far as I am concerned. If you think the players got anything out of the games against them, well you really amaze me. As I read some of the stuff posted I can only shake my head and say, they just don't see the big picture and have tunnel vision and offer to help them find another club to join. It is not all about one or two soccer moms or dads, it is about 500 plus kids and in the grand scheme of things 495 is still about 500. I don't want anyone to leave our club but if you cannot find happiness here, I wish you well and hope you find it somewhere else. I will make a request that if anyone else uses this forum to bash this club or board be banned from using it and that no screen names not be allowed. Most of this garbage would stop if you had to sign your name to it. As far as Mr. or Mrs. BREW1 or whoever, if this shoe fits wear it. If this confuses the reader please call me and I will be happy to make it clear. Shut up or put up !!! I suspect you will drive by more deer stands on the way to and from the fields than those on the property next to us. Just perfect examples of “don’t know". I am sorry for the accident mentioned. But I know some who shot themselves, shot by someone else, got burned, got divorced, crashed in a plane, had their house burned to the ground and they were all accidents. If it is meant to be, a deer hunter will shoot you while you sleep tonight. Just crazy I know. But that is what I think about all this garbage. I am sure a lot of you are glad I am gone and a few of you make me glad I am gone too. To the rest of you, hang in there good things comes to those who wait. To the board members I am sorry, but someone had to say it. I know I am up to 18 cents now. I am trying, I swear

well that was crystal clear, at least he said it. I was thinking it but was afraid to say it. I hope everyone will just let it go and get back to what we all came here for and that is soccer. My kids love this and we live for the games.

I do not have a child that plays in this league. I do have three children one bowls one is lazy and the other plays soccer on Fort Benning. I love all three of them. My Son that bowls loves Football, Soccer, and Baseball. He loves all sports. He is in the midst of 95 weeks of chemotherapy treatments for a brain tumor. But he smiles every time he goes bowling, and he smiles when we play catch in the back yard. He isn't allowed any contact sports which includes Soccer. As a Ref I get to be up close with the kids and most of them are having a good time. If they aren't I try and talk to them let them know that it is a game and it isn't so serious that you should get upset about it. I have watched one particular player since his first year in U-10 and now he is in U-12. He used to have fun and now when I watch him I see no Joy. When he misses a shot he gets upset and yells at himself. I hear his coach shouting too. I am sure that the board makes decisions that are best for the majority of the league. I understand that not everyone can be satisfied. As a Ref I figure if both sides walk away mad at me then I have done my job. Benefits of having the rangers and this tournament. Both open up RCSC to the state, exposure to possibly recieve grants to improve the facility which benefits both the rec teams and the traveling teams. By the way I see alot of REC kids that would be very competitive on traveling teams. Are board members responsible for poor decisions? Yes. Are parents responsible for not being more pro-active in the decision making process of the league? Yes. However we learn by decisions both good and bad. and oh by the way. We all knew hunting season was coming up when children were registered. So lets stop beating each other up and look for the joy on the field. If you see a need fill it. If you have a need ask to have it filled. But finger pointing and blame placeing does not solve issues. It only exas exasper hmmmm makes them worse. Thank God I don't have to be able to spell to ref.

NO ONE had to forfeit a game. Playing the double header was an option for those that did not want to on opening day of deer season. The email sent out to the coaches on Tuesday the 28th by the age group coordinator clearly stating for the coach to call him and he would be glad to make arrangements if a team could not play.

I have had a son play on River City since 2001 and he still loves it. He was part of Rec until a couple years ago when he decided to play on Rangers. I also have another son who plays Rec and I now coach his team. So I can see on 3 sides what it is like being a part of this club. On the Ranger side, we have elite trained coaching that is helping all the travel teams to reach there best and beyond. The U11 Boys Ranger team finished 3rd in their first time of being on a division II state league. The Rec teams have a tremendous amount of talent also and yes their numbers are greater then the travel but all deserve and receive everything from the board. As a coach, I now understand how much it takes every week, but it is worth it all. I wish a few others would stop complaining so much and put up or shut up as said before. There is way too much talking going on and not enough energy put on helping out at the fields. I have told my parents that these fields (no matter where they are at) are OUR fields and we all need to take part in keeping them looking their best for our kids to play on. We are still having to use other fields for practice due to lighting, so for all of those out there who complain about practices moving due to lighting, find a way for our kids to have their own. Robert has taken on a lot of this for years and has done a great job. Anyone who wants to do nothing but complain please either go else where or take a stand by becoming part of River City by volunteering to make a difference. Nothing is ever perfect and if you think so then you need to wake up cause you are dreaming. As far as the hunting goes, it has been said before......WE ARE MORE OF A PROBLEM FOR THE HUNTERS THEN THEY ARE TO US. Game changes and changes in general are part of life, so grow up and take notice. I also have 3 children that practice at different times at different places. One is not even associated with soccer but with cheerleading. We even have a competition this Sunday that the schedule has already been changed 3 times since it came out. But we do not complain because what can we do about it, whine, no we would get laughed at and told it is part of it. Our schedule has been changed to show everyone in Phenix City and surrounding areas OUR field that has taken years of hard work to get accomplished. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD AND NOT BEATING PEOPLE DOWN BECAUSE OF IT. IT IS OUR FIELD AND WE ARE PROUD OF IT. If we want to be able to have more fields, lighting, and more certified coaches then we are going to have to host tournaments at our fields so we are going to have to deal with a few minor adjustments.

By the way Kelli Harris and Jason Towns of the U11 Rangers really put up instead of shut up as said before. All of us at RCSC are very grateful for all of your hard work Saturday November 8th at the tournament. If a small portion of our parents even came close to what you have done, we would be much better off. Coaching is volunteering and we appreciate all of you coaches. Thank you for giving your personal time to make a difference in our children. Thanks again to Kelli and Jason. I also want to thank all of our board members, other parents and coaches who gave up their Saturday to help out. Don't forget all board members are volunteers as well. It is going to take more than 10 of us board members to pull off the great season we have planned. So ask where your help is needed most & GET INVOLVED!!
