I really miss the quarter breaks. Perhaps it is just me but I am having a difficult time keeping up with substitutions and getting equal playing time for all my players. Perhaps some of you other coaches could share your secrets. I think I will go back to changing out the team at the 12 minute mark. I like the flow of the game without the breaks and should get better at it as the season progresses...

Here are some ideas on subs.

1 Start a few weaker players. this way the game stays level and you do not have the drops in talent. Kids should not equate starting with talent.

2 Have a written plan. I always have my starters and my subs mapped out prior to the game. Once the game starts I throw it away due to flow of play and injuries. But its good to have a plan.

3 Start the entire group that just came off at half time for the second half. this way you can focus on thoughts and eliminate all the shuffling. the kids get a bigger block of time this way.

4 Try Block subs in games where you are ahead or Behind. This is a timed Block substitution that clears your bench.

5 In tight games try subbing in 1 player at a time. this way the game does not get shaken up and the players on the field can ease into the subs. When doing this for a under 10 game, I would start at the 10th minute and finish by the 20th.
