It may take a week or two for everyone to get on the same page with the new rules. Referees should meet with both coaches befor the game and review the new substitution procedures. Free substitutions mean the coaches send players to the midfield line and notify the referee they want to make a substitution. The referee will then allow the substitution at the next stoppage of play. If you have questions find the DOC.

Are these rule changes in regard to the U-8 teams?

I understand this is to be applied to all ages. It would most affect U6,U8,U10 who prior to this could only sub on the quarter breaks and injury.

AS Chuck said it will take a few games to train everyone. The goal is we are not yelling at a kid for 10 or 15 mins as coaches, where we could just sub him or her out. This also helps while developing younger Goal Keepers at the Under 10 level. There is no reason for one keeper to have to deal with the mental Baggage of having 3-6 goals scored on them in a game. Make the subs as needed. Keep the kids head up and let her try another day. The key is Fun, excitement and a positive experience for all. We then show or TALK to them on what they need to be doing, and then get them back in the game. The coaches are still going to be responsible to make sure each player plays 50% of the games. If YOUR coach does not then LET HIM or HER Know. Please also be sure we do not become a group of clock watchers where one kid get shorted 3 mins and we make a point of it. Soccer is a fluid game and we need to coach it as one.
