This question was asked to me and I needed to get the MAN to answer it becasue there was some debate concerning it. If the defenders cross the midfeild line, can an attacker be offsides?

The question of off-side can only be answered by making certain assumptions. First, if the defenders cross the midfield line but the attacker does not cross it, the attacker cannot be off-side. An attacker cannot be off-side when in his/her own half of the field irrespective of where the defensive players are positioned.

Now is the defensive players cross mid-field and the attacker steps over the mid-field line, he/she is in an off-side position and judgement is made when the ball is played.

Look at Law 11, a player cannot be offside in his/her half of the field. But once they cross mid-filed they are in an off-side position.

This is the interpretation we will use!!!!!
